Is Elon Musk a closeted neo-nazi?

February 23, 2025

Is Elon Musk a neo-nazi?

No. At least not publicly. If Elon Musk is a neo-nazi, he is the closet about it.

South African entrepreneur and U.S. Government official, Elon Musk, has been accused of being a neo-nazi. As of February 2025, Elon Musk has not explicitly endorsed neo-Nazi ideologies. However, several of his actions and statements have raised significant concerns and have been interpreted by some as aligning with far-right and extremist views.

In late 2024, Musk publicly endorsed Germany's far-right party, AfD, urging Germans to move beyond their historical guilt associated with Nazi crimes. This endorsement was controversial, as the AfD has been linked to extremist rhetoric and has been monitored by German intelligence agencies for potential extremist activities.

During President Donald Trump's second inauguration in January 2025, Musk made a gesture that many interpreted as a Nazi salute. The gesture involved thumping his right hand over his heart and then extending his arm outward at an upward angle. This action drew widespread criticism from some political figures and historians. Various neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups expressed support for Musk's gesture, interpreting it as an endorsement of their ideologies. The mixed reaction highlighted concerns about Musk's influence and the potential normalization of extremist views.

Musk has consistently denied any intentional association with neo-Nazi symbols or ideologies. That is good news for Tesla shareholders and Space X investors. The South African empresario, who was born and raised in Pretoria in the 1970s and 1980s under the white supremacist Apartheid system, has dismissed the allegations of being a neo-nazi. In response to the inauguration gesture or Nazi salute controversy, Musk did not deny the nature of the gesture, but labeled criticism as a politicized attack. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) stated that Musk did not make a Nazi salute but rather "made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm."

In summary, while Elon Musk has not overtly endorsed neo-Nazi ideologies, his recent actions and statements have been interpreted by some as aligning with far-right views, leading to both public criticism and support from extremist groups.

What are the neo-nazi ideologies?

Neo-Nazism is a far-right extremist ideology that seeks to revive and promote the beliefs, policies, and symbols of Nazi Germany (1933–1945). Emerging after World War II, neo-Nazism draws heavily from Adolf Hitler's fascist ideology, advocating for white supremacy, anti-Semitism, ultranationalism, and authoritarianism. While explicitly Nazi political parties were banned in many countries after 1945, neo-Nazi movements have persisted, often adapting their rhetoric to avoid legal consequences.

Neo-Nazi ideology is rooted in several key beliefs:

1. White Supremacy and Racism: Neo-Nazis believe in the superiority of the so-called "white" race and advocate for racial "purity". They oppose immigration, multiculturalism, and racial integration, viewing non-white populations as threats to their northwestern European "ethnic homeland."

2. Anti-Semitism and Holocaust Denial: Many neo-Nazis claim that Jews control global institutions such as banks, media, and governments. They often deny or downplay the Holocaust, despite overwhelming historical evidence proving Nazi atrocities.

3. Ultranationalism and Authoritarianism: Neo-Nazis promote extreme nationalism, often idolizing Nazi Germany and calling for authoritarian governments that suppress dissent. Some neo-nazi groups advocate for the establishment of an all-white ethnostate.

4. Anti-Communism, Anti-Liberalism, Anti-DEI: Neo-Nazis see communism, socialism, and liberal democracy as threats to national and racial purity. They often oppose political institutions that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

5. Militarism: Many neo-Nazi organizations glorify violence, paramilitary activities, and armed resistance against perceived enemies. They are often linked to acts of terrorism and hate crimes.

Neo-Nazism remains a dangerous ideology that threatens democratic values, human rights, and social stability. While marginalized in mainstream society, its influence persists through online radicalization, extremist propaganda, and acts of terrorism. Combating neo-Nazi ideology requires strong legal measures, public awareness, and societal commitment to rejecting hate in all forms.

Elon Musk is a South African born and raised in Pretoria in the 1970s and 1980s. In those formative decades for Elon, his home country and city witnessed the emergence and activities of neo-Nazi movements, notably the Afrikaner Weerstandsbeweging (AWB) and the Blanke Bevrydingsbeweging (BBB). Both Elon's father and maternal grandfather have been labeled as white supremacists in the past. It is up to Elon Musk to define himself as a neo-nazi or not.

Now you know it.
